Window lanterns are made from a fine white fabric onto
which a black outline picture is painted. The lanterns are framed in the windows of the houses on the route, and lit from behind.
Workshops in window lantern making are held at the Community Centre in bankgate, usually well prior to the festival, and anyone living on the route is welcome to make one. The current cost is £1.50 per session with all materials included.
If you wish to come along and make one, bring the exact measurements of the window in which you will display the lantern. You will also need a couple of angle poise lamps (or similar) fitted with 100 watt bulbs to illuminate the lantern on the night of the street party.
By this time (25-Jan-2008) the 2008 workshops are complete. If you wish to make and display a lantern for 2009, please contact Karima Ellis
