Admission: £1.50 per person per session
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

This year the theme is Nursery Rhymes

Sculptural lanterns are made from a framework of willow, covered with tissue paper, soaked in glue and lit by candles.  They are then suspended on bamboo poles to be carried around the procession.   The lanterns can take any form representing some ‘nursery rhyme’ theme or character.  A simple lantern can be made in a couple of sessions, but a more complex lantern may take or third or even a fourth session.

There will be special help for beginners at all workshops except the 4.30 and 7.30 ones on Thursday.

The popularity of our lantern making workshops grows year on year.  In order to accommodate everyone in a safe working environment we need to make changes;

  • We are putting on 4 extra ‘tea-time’ workshops on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 4.30 to 6.30.
  • We are asking you to take your lanterns home as soon as they are finished.
    Those that are tissued on Thursday can be picked up from the workshop on Friday before 3pm.
    There will be no public access to the Community Centre on Saturday to pick up lanterns as it will have another use.
  • We will have to limit numbers of participants attending workshops and may have to ask you to come back to a later one.  If this happens we can ensure you get a place in that workshop.
  • We are sorry to have to implement this latter precaution but I am afraid the Community Centre does not have elastic sides… yet.
Remember to bring your secateurs!
